Weird is the New Smart

The definition of "smart" just changed.
For decades, being the smartest person in the room meant having the most answers, the best data, or the sharpest technical skills. But today, everyone has an AI assistant in their pocket that is "smarter" than any human.
The playing field hasn't just been leveled; it’s been flattened.
Because of the speed and ease of AI, the barrier to entry for "high-level" work has vanished. You don’t necessarily have to do the traditional "work" anymore, you just need to write a decent prompt. But here’s the problem, if everyone is using the same tools to find the same answers, we are heading toward a sea of beige.
When "smart" becomes a commodity, it loses its value.
So, how do you stand out when everyone has the same "brain" in their browser?
The Rise of the Weird
The only thing AI cannot replicate is your human friction. Your quirks. Your bizarre hobbies. Your lived experiences that don’t fit into a data set. Your specific, unpolished, and sometimes inconvenient perspective.
"Weird" is now your greatest professional asset.
I’m not talking about being "quirky" for the sake of it. This isn't a new age sentiment, it’s a practical business strategy. In a world of generative perfection, the human element is the only thing that creates differentiation.
Why "Weird" Works in Business:
- Attraction, Not Promotion: Clients and employers aren't looking for another AI-generated solution; they are looking for a personality they can trust. Your "weird" acts as a beacon for the right opportunities.
- Empathy & Imagination: AI can predict the next word, but it can’t feel the room. It can’t use imagination to solve a problem that hasn’t happened yet.
- Memorable Over Mediocre: Being "smart" is expected. Being "yourself" is memorable.
Don’t Optimize. Amplify.
We’ve spent years trying to polish our professional personas to be as "standard" as possible. We’ve been told to fit in, to be "polished," and to be "professional."
Stop.
The more you rely on AI to do your thinking, the more you disappear. The more you lean into your personal perspective, your empathy, your oddities, and your imagination, the more indispensable you become.
Nurture your weird. Embrace it. Amplify it. In the age of AI, being smart is easy. Being weird is the only way to be brilliant.
