When I look back, the most expensive thing in my life wasn’t a house. It wasn’t a car. It wasn’t even a bad investment in a "sure thing" tech stock.

Honestly? I’ve spent the most money on myself.

‍

Not on clothes or fancy dinners. On my own growth.

‍

From the moment I escaped high school to the years I spent in college and every bit of continuing education since—the investment wasn't always a tuition check. Sometimes, the "cost" was the paycheck I didn't take.

The High Price of Experience

I’ve left high-paying roles for lower-paying ones just for the experience. I turned down a lucrative corporate gig for a mountain of uncertainty because the corporate mould didn’t fit.

I traded the safety of a union job for two low-paying grinds just because I wanted to learn. I’ve even worked for clients at a fraction of my fee because I believed in their mission and because it gave me a masterclass in a new industry.

What’s my point? You own your growth.

‍

Education isn't something you "finish." It should be your most significant, ongoing investment. Period. Think about it. A house might appreciate in value, but eventually, someone else will own it. A car? That starts depreciating the second you drive it off the lot.

Knowledge never depreciates.

The Outsource Trap

Lately, I see too many "done-for-you" services.

‍

• "We’ll write your book."
• "We’ll build your brand with AI."
• "We’ll do the thinking so you don't have to."

These are actual titles that have made it to my feed. No embellishment.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?

‍

Creativity and knowledge are not things you outsource. When you lean too heavily into technological "knowledge," you’re playing a losing game. Technology is a tool, not the answer.

‍

Leaning into your personal growth and development is the only investment that won’t lose its value. It can't be stolen. It can't be "disrupted" by an algorithm.

‍

And the best part? When you pass that knowledge on, it only grows.
